It was a great success, with amazing talks from folks from PuppetLabs, E-Post, Deloitte and many more.

Of course we would like to thank all people attanding the Conf. We would also like to thank the Linux Magazine again, for supporting us with media coverage. And OF COURSE… *drum roll*… OpenNebula Systems (formaly known as C12G Labs) for being our partner in crime :)

The plans for next years Conf are in development and we will come back to you with more information as soon as possible.

First day of OpenNebula Conf http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2014/12/first-day-of-opennebula-conf/ http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2014/12/first-day-of-opennebula-conf/#respond Tue, 02 Dec 2014 15:00:37 +0000 http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/?p=1470 …or the day before the Conf – depending on how you count.

We started the day early to get from the NETWAYS headquater in Nuremberg to the conference hotel Berlin. Our friends from OpenNebula were already there and we could make all preparations for the workshops very smoothly. There was even enough time to take a snack.
Exactly at 2:00 pm (just like expected when dealing with pettifogging Germans) the workshops started. Now the next thing we are looking forward to is dinner.  :)

Tomorrow the actual conference will start and will officially be opened with Ignacio M. Llorentes kick off “State and Future of OpenNebula”. We can also look forward to David Lutterkort talking about what an enchanting match Puppet and OpenNebula are.
The early afternoon will then be filled with enlightening talks by Carlo Daffara and Daniel Molina until it’s time for dinner again.  :)

Late afternoon (or pre evening event time slot, as we call it) will start with another highlight: Armin Deliomini will tell us how Runtastic switched from commercial products to Open Source only. Now, about one year later, he will give us an insight to the Status Quo where the private infrastructure for more than 40 000 000 registered users for Runtastic is implemented.

Also the talks of Jose Angel Diaz (CENATIC), Jordi Guijarro (CSUC) Tino Vazquez (OpenNebula) and many more will sweeten the time until the evening event finally starts. This year we will be at the restaurant “Alte Meierei”.

And then we just have to wake up once again, until the next Conf day, with even more highlights starts. :)

Last Opportunity to Contribute to OpenNebulaConf: Lightning Talks Still Available! http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2014/11/last-opportunity-to-contribute-to-opennebulaconf-lightning-talks-still-available/ http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2014/11/last-opportunity-to-contribute-to-opennebulaconf-lightning-talks-still-available/#respond Mon, 10 Nov 2014 10:40:50 +0000 http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/?p=1429 As you may know, the lineup and agenda for the second OpenNebula Conference (due this 2-4 December in Berlin) are already closed. These high quality contents ensure that the conference is the perfect place to learn about Cloud Computing, and to understand how industry leaders of different sectors are using OpenNebula in their datacenters.

There is however still a chance to contribute to the conference. The lightning talks are 5 minute plenary presentations focusing on one key point. This can be a new project, product, feature, integration, experience, use case, collaboration invitation, quick tip, or demonstration. This session is an opportunity for ideas to get the attention they deserve. Remember the rules:

  • Five minutes and only five minutes
  • Three slides and only three slides
  • Focus on only one key point: use case, experience, new feature, demo…

We have two 30-minute sessions for lightning talks and there are still slots available, so now is the time to register and send us your proposal!

Providing the Foundation of the Cloud http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2013/09/providing-the-foundation-of-the-cloud/ http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2013/09/providing-the-foundation-of-the-cloud/#respond Thu, 26 Sep 2013 14:19:39 +0000 http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/?p=700 Just one day left of the OpenNebula Conference, it is a good time to summarise the feelings gathered in the hectic last couple of days.

The Conference could not start better than it did with a vibrant Hacking Session, where lots of feedback were conveyed to the OpenNebula developers. Also, the OpenNebula tutorial went as smooth as it gets with a great, knowledge hungry attendees.

Yesterday a bigger portion of the pie was served with a great combo of keynotes. Amazing use cases where masterly portrayed in keynotes by Daniel Concepción from Produban – Santander Group, Thomas Higdon from Akamai and Steven Timm from FermiLab. It is very refreshing to hear how OpenNebula is being use in large scale production environments. A myriad of great talks where given afterwards by people coming from different backgrounds, but one common goal: creating IaaS that work.

All in all, a very good atmosphere is being breath by all the participant of the conference. Interesting, techie chats are being held all over the place in small groups, where people explain how do they use OpenNebula in their infrastructures to build the IaaS layer that they want, not the one that the Cloud Management Platform imposes. That is the great thing about OpenNebula’s modular architecture.

There is not praising big enough to thank the NetWays people to organise so expertly this first OpenNebulaConf. From the amazing food to the great dinner venue, they created the ideal environment so OpenNebula enthusiasts can forget about logistics and concentrate on sharing their particular but thankfully transferable knowledge.

Shaping the Future of Cloud Computing http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2013/09/shaping-the-future-of-cloud-computing/ http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2013/09/shaping-the-future-of-cloud-computing/#respond Mon, 16 Sep 2013 11:26:07 +0000 http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/?p=683 OpenNebulaConf 2013

As stated by the European Commission, OpenNebula has played an important role in driving and supporting the transition to cloud computing. We are convinced that OpenNebula is going to have a significant weight in modelling the data center of the future, and the high quality list of speakers of the OpenNebula Conference 2013 seems to agree with us.

The Conference, to be held in Berlin in September, 24-26, is just a week away. This is the perfect place to learn about practical cloud computing, useful for researchers, developers, administrators, integrators, architects, executives and IT managers tackle their computational and business challenges.

Registration is closing soon, but if this appeals to you, there are still a few seats left. Don’t waste another second and register now!

Hacking Session http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2013/09/hacking-session/ http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2013/09/hacking-session/#respond Mon, 09 Sep 2013 12:37:35 +0000 http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/?p=669 The first day of the conference we are going to have a couple of activities that I’m sure you’ll be interested in. There is one tutorial for people that wants to learn how to deploy and use OpenNebula and in parallel we will have free form hacking session.

This hacking session is meant for people that already has OpenNebula deployed and knows how to use it. There you can catch up with OpenNebula developers and have conversations that are a bit hard to have in the mailing list. It is also a great place to meet other people that may be doing things similar to you or have already sorted out some of the problems you may have. Here are some ideas on what you can do in the hacking session:

  • Ask about some new feature that is coming in new releases
  • Get help modifying Sunstone interface for your company
  • Integrate your billing system with OpenNebula accounting
  • Create a new Transfer Manager driver that knows how to talk to your SAN
  • Migrate a driver you’ve made for an old OpenNebula version to the newest one
  • Optimize your OpenNebula deployment

But you can also help us with the project! For example:

  • Discuss about some feature you may want to have included
  • Help improving or developing a new feature for OpenNebula
  • Give advice or add new documentation
  • Bug hunting!

This session will be held the first day (September 24) from 2pm to 6pm but we will be available the whole conference. In case there’s no time the first day or you want to talk to us any other day just come and say hi!

See you in Berlin!

OpenNebula Conf 2013: the Evening Event http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2013/09/opennebula-conf-2013-the-evening-event/ http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/2013/09/opennebula-conf-2013-the-evening-event/#respond Wed, 04 Sep 2013 12:07:54 +0000 http://archives.opennebulaconf.com/?p=594 Only three weeks left until the worldwide first OpenNebula Conf starts in Berlin! Besides all the exciting talks which you have probably already discovered here, there will be enough time for an intense knowledge exchange and networking. One of the greatest opportunities to do so will be the evening event on Wednesday, September 25, 2013.
The conference attendees can expect one of the finest locations in Berlin for flamboyant delicacies. The restaurant named “Umspannwerk OST” is located in a former transformer house, which is now a listed building. This location is not only impressive with its architecture; it is also a gourmet mecca.
For more information on the evening event, please visit our website:
We are looking forward to a successful conference and an exciting evening event with you!
