First day of OpenNebula Conf

…or the day before the Conf – depending on how you count.

We started the day early to get from the NETWAYS headquater in Nuremberg to the conference hotel Berlin. Our friends from OpenNebula were already there and we could make all preparations for the workshops very smoothly. There was even enough time to take a snack.
Exactly at 2:00 pm (just like expected when dealing with pettifogging Germans) the workshops started. Now the next thing we are looking forward to is dinner.  :)

Tomorrow the actual conference will start and will officially be opened with Ignacio M. Llorentes kick off “State and Future of OpenNebula”. We can also look forward to David Lutterkort talking about what an enchanting match Puppet and OpenNebula are.
The early afternoon will then be filled with enlightening talks by Carlo Daffara and Daniel Molina until it’s time for dinner again.  :)

Late afternoon (or pre evening event time slot, as we call it) will start with another highlight: Armin Deliomini will tell us how Runtastic switched from commercial products to Open Source only. Now, about one year later, he will give us an insight to the Status Quo where the private infrastructure for more than 40 000 000 registered users for Runtastic is implemented.

Also the talks of Jose Angel Diaz (CENATIC), Jordi Guijarro (CSUC) Tino Vazquez (OpenNebula) and many more will sweeten the time until the evening event finally starts. This year we will be at the restaurant “Alte Meierei”.

And then we just have to wake up once again, until the next Conf day, with even more highlights starts. :)

OpenNebula Conf: Call for Papers started

OpenNebulaConf_CFP_July

After one long year of waiting, finally the second ever OpenNebula Conf opens its Call for Papers again. Everybody who wants to join as a speaker can now propose a talk via the online form at opennebulaconf.com/papers

If you do so, you should definitely reserve a bit of time from December 2nd to 4th and check out flights to Berlin/Germany, because this is when and where cool things will happen! You should also check out Early-Bird-Tickets if you want to join us at the Conf ! They are available until the End of CfP .

We are looking forward to your talks and will come back to you by the end of CfP on July 15th.

Providing the Foundation of the Cloud

Just one day left of the OpenNebula Conference, it is a good time to summarise the feelings gathered in the hectic last couple of days.

The Conference could not start better than it did with a vibrant Hacking Session, where lots of feedback were conveyed to the OpenNebula developers. Also, the OpenNebula tutorial went as smooth as it gets with a great, knowledge hungry attendees.

Yesterday a bigger portion of the pie was served with a great combo of keynotes. Amazing use cases where masterly portrayed in keynotes by Daniel Concepción from Produban – Santander Group, Thomas Higdon from Akamai and Steven Timm from FermiLab. It is very refreshing to hear how OpenNebula is being use in large scale production environments. A myriad of great talks where given afterwards by people coming from different backgrounds, but one common goal: creating IaaS that work.

All in all, a very good atmosphere is being breath by all the participant of the conference. Interesting, techie chats are being held all over the place in small groups, where people explain how do they use OpenNebula in their infrastructures to build the IaaS layer that they want, not the one that the Cloud Management Platform imposes. That is the great thing about OpenNebula’s modular architecture.

There is not praising big enough to thank the NetWays people to organise so expertly this first OpenNebulaConf. From the amazing food to the great dinner venue, they created the ideal environment so OpenNebula enthusiasts can forget about logistics and concentrate on sharing their particular but thankfully transferable knowledge.
